adopt your favourite animal at australia's favourite park

Most people have visions of thrills and spills when they think of Dreamworld. But behind the colourful main gates that host some of the maddest rides on earth and one of the most accessible wildlife sanctuaries in Queensland, is a park with a giant heart, actively committed to environmental and animal conservation.

In late 2007, Dreamworld launched its Adopt an Animal program, pitching in with animal lovers around the world to raise money for the Dreamworld Conservation Fund which supports organisations involved in external conservation projects and research.

Ranging from a Bronze sponsorship at just $50 per year right up to the Platinum package at $1000, sponsors receive pictures of the adopted animal, an official certificate, animal fact sheets and quarterly newsletters to keep them up-to-date with all AWE and Tiger Island news. Larger sponsors also receive tickets to attend a Sunset Safari Tour, Dreamworld passes to spot the adopted animal and Dreamworld merchandise.

In the two years since its launch, 320 animals have been adopted contributing almost $25,000 to the Dreamworld Conservation Fund.

One of South East Queensland’s largest wildlife parks caring for over 500 native and exotic animals and birds, the focus of Dreamworld’s Wildlife Experience today centres on preserving threatened species like the bilbies, cassowaries, endangered frogs, Tasmanian devils, woma pythons and more.

A government-approved bilby breeding centre, Dreamworld works with the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) as part of the cooperative captive management of Queensland Bilbies. It was the first non-government institution granted approval to breed bilbies for release.

With just 600 of these creatures left in the wild, AWE is home to a specially designed, semi-nocturnal bilby exhibit that educates guests and school groups about the grim plight faced by the bilby. Dreamworld donates more than $100,000 a year in cash and in kind support to underwrite the work of Frank Manthey and Peter Mcrae’s Save the Bilby Fund.

A Gold Conservation Partner of the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF), Dreamworld has donated more than a million dollars to help save the endangered Aussie icon. With the second largest captive koala population in the world, our koalas and in particular ol’ blue eyed “Frankie” who now has some 60 caring families, can be fostered through the AKF.

In 1997, Dreamworld developed a Tiger Fund to raise money for projects that directly contribute to saving tigers in the wild. Using money raised through activities like Adopt a Tiger, the theme park has contributed more than AUD$1,200,000 to anti-poaching patrols and conservation initiatives in three countries. .

Dreamworld’s General Manager of Life Sciences, Mr Al Mucci, is passionate about growing the Adopt an Animal program.

“Dreamworld takes a business approach to the long-term fight to protect the wellbeing of our precious wild animals. We appreciate everyone’s support, large or small, in helping us save animals in the wild.”

By adopting an animal from a selection that ranges from Bengal tigers to cougars, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, cassowaries, bilbies and more, animal lovers will not only make a difference to the future of our iconic animals, they will also receive special gifts of appreciation as part of their adoption pack.
